Dear colleague,

I have written to you recently on the plan to hold an one-day meeting on
national and European energy issues in Cork, Ireland.  The meeting is
part of an EPS initiative to deepen the discussion on energy and to give
national energy groups a platform to discuss this important issue in a
European context. EPS also wants to expand its own efforts on energy
science and technology, which are organised within its Technology Group.

As more time was made available for us, the meeting will now be on
January 16th only. We will start early in the morning and finish so that
one can, in principle, leave Cork on the same day. The meeting will be
organised locally by Dr. O´Reilly (eoreilly@tyndall.ie). In case, a member
(or members) of your society are working on energy (possibly more with a
national perspective) are interested to attend, they should please contact
him
for accommodation.

The format of the meeting will be presentations from representatives of
national physical societies, which have a devoted group working on
energy, and futhermore reports from the EPS divisions dealing with this
topic. Mostly results from the work of these groups will be discussed. I
try to also have a representive from the Eu. Acad. Scienc. Advis. Comm.
(which also deals with EU energy). We will also discuss a proposal on
how these various national activities could keep contact and work
together, present and discuss their progress in a regular format and put
their national results into a European perspective.

if this is not the case. In case of participation, I will contact him to
clarify his scientific/technical contribution in case he plans to have one.
