TRAVEL and PARKING for IPS2000

TECHNION MAP

View an aerial map of the area near physics or view the entire aerial map that includes parking areas. Physics is in Area 5.

PARKING

You may enter at the main gate by stating that you are coming to the IPS meeting. Early arrivals amongst the invited speakers, session chairs and IPS committee members may enter the inner part of the Physics Department gated lot until this is full or the registration time is over (a hostess with a list will be stationed there during registration.) Other participants may park anywhere on campus except in gated lots.

CAR - from the South

Take route #2 north. Take the first exit AFTER the Atlit interchange, and before the bridge. The exit is near the MATAM research park and has a sign to the Technion. You then make a right turn at the T junction (mandatory) and then a left at the next traffic light, following the sign Technion.

Stay on this road (called Fleiman and then Freud) as it winds up the hill for about 4Km, until you reach a T juction with a traffic light at the top of the hill. You'll see a shopping mall to the left in front of you. Make a left at the light and then immediately right at the next light. Go down the hill (Pica Road) for about 1.5 Km. When you see a gas station on your right, bear to the right, staying on this road. After about 1 Km take the left lane where the road goes under a tunnel. Bear right just before the next traffic light into Komoi Street and then bear to the left at the following light. After 200 meters or so you'll be at the main Technion (west) gate.

Within the Technion you drive straight, following the main ring road (which bears left just after Industrial Engineering) and park where you can. Please see the aerial map.

CAR - from the North and West

Follow the signs to the Technion thru Nesher. To the best of current information the back gate of the Technion will be closed to vehicle traffic on 11/5/00. Hence please drive around to the front (west) gate by continuing on the road from Nesher and then turning left and driving thru the Ziv center. If you must park outside the campus then this gate is closer to Physics than the main gate. Please see the aerial map.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Take an intercity bus to the central bus station or a train to the Bat Galim train station (which is near the bus station and connected by an underground tunnel.)

We recommend taxi from the bus/train station, as the bus can take 3/4 hour in the morning peak, whereas taxi is much quicker, and if you share a taxi also cheaper.

TAXI - The taxi fare from Haifa (Egged) Bus Station to the Technion is approximately IS 30. Ask the driver to operate the meter, and ask him to take you to the main Technion gate and then use the car instructions as above to reach the Technion Physics Department.

BUS - Take bus no. 17. (After 7:00 p.m. take bus no. 19). This bus brings you right into the Technion Campus. It runs throughout the day and frequently. The bus stop for Physics is the third (after the Senate and Industrial Engineering). Walk slightly downhill then turn left past the gate into the parking lot and then following the road when it bears right and you will find yourself facing the main entrance to the Physics Building where the registration desk will be.

Use bus no. 11 from the HOF Hacarmel train station.

IPS members from outside Haifa who want a hotel reservation at a reduced rate for the night of either 10th or 11th May should contact the conference secretary, Ms Liz Youdim, (liz@physics.technion.ac.il) before 13th April, 2000. The reduced rate is Holiday Inn 110$ (single), 130$ (double) Dvir 63$ (single), 78$ (double). Although these bookings will be at your expense, booking thru us will give the lower rate, and enable us to coordinate transport to the Technion on the day of IPS2000.
