STUDENT PRIZEWINNERS
NADAV KATZ
Nadav Katz is a doctoral student at the Weizmann Institute in the Department
of Physics of Complex Systems under the supervision of Nir Davidson. He
completed his army service in the Engeneer Corps with several awards and a
B.Sc. in Physics and computer Science at HUJ. His research interests include
Bose-Einstein condensation and its excitations, laser cooling and trapping of
atoms, atom optics in ordered and quasiperiodic systems, classical and quantum
chaaos, decoherence and dephasing of many-body Bosonic systems, quantum phase
transitions, and quantum information processing. He volunteers for youth
education activites and has had twelve scientific papers published, including
five in Physical Review Letters.
ERAN OFEK
Eran Ofek is studying for his doctorate at Tel Aviv University under the
supervision of Dan Maoz. He has received several prizes including recently a
Dan David Scholarship. He has 27 publications in refereed journals, and is
interested in topics ranging from one of the largest surveys ever done for
quasars gravitationally lensed by intervening galaxy clusters, to issues of
large imaging databases and scheduling algorithms.
Since he was a teenager he has been active in public outreach and eduction in
astronomy. His homepage at http://wise-obs.tau.ac.il/~eran has a rich
